I’m so thankful for Cindy’s expertise and talent. She gave me exercises and instructions on what to do after each session. I love how I feel and am on a maintenance program to keep my body in balance. If you’re in pain, definitely give Cindy 3 sessions to get your body balanced before you decide if Bowen is right for you. I highly recommend her! I thank her for changing my life! 🙂

I am a Registered Nurse with acute and chronic pain. After the very first session, I experienced immediate and long term relief, not only from physical pain but the emotional stress that goes with it. Cindy is very talented at what she does and I highly recommend her.

Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy Explained

What Is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is an established form of bodywork from Australia that is increasingly sought by clients who desire approaches to pain relief, postural realignment and relaxation. Bowen Therapy speeds recovery from injuries, and surgeries, enhances athletic performance, relieves physical and emotional stress, lessens symptoms of many diseases and conditions, and improves overall health, well-being and energy levels.

Bowen Therapy is not just a treatment therapy but also a profound relaxation technique and it is one of the leading and most effective connective tissue therapies available. Bowen Therapy uses the dynamic relationship between the myofascial tissue, muscles and the nervous system. A Bowen Therapy treatment is done with the client fully clothed in loose fitting cotton (or similar) clothing. “Bowen Moves” are made over muscles and connective tissue in a specific pattern, per the clients presenting issues.  There are frequent pauses to allow the body to process, respond and begin the healing process. A skilled, gentle touch delivers powerful results.

The beauty of Bowen Therapy is that it works with the body to heal itself and restores the body’s natural balance. It evokes deep relaxation and renews the body’s innate ability to heal itself without any forceful manipulations. It is profoundly effective for most acute and chronic health problems, including stress and anxiety.

Who’s Bowen Therapy For?

Bowen therapy is safe and recommended for everyone from highly trained athletes to pregnant women, newborn babies, children and the elderly. Everyone responds to Bowenwork according to what his or her body needs in order to heal. Acute work or sports related injuries generally take 3-8 sessions to resolve. Additional sessions may be required for chronic or more complex ailments.

Choosing Bowen as a

Regular Form of Bodywork

Many clients who like to receive regular massage or bodywork, 1 or 2 times a month, due to continuous stress and tough environmental work ( i.e. sitting for long periods, construction, repetitive motions) will choice to receive regular Bowen Treatments over massage or other types of bodywork. With Bowen Therapy, your body rebalances in its own way and time, and therefore holds and retains balance much better.

How is Bowen Therapy Different?

Chiropractic Therapy

Chiropractors work directly with the bone to re-align the body, whereas Bowen practitioners work directly with the connective tissue and muscles. If the soft tissue or fascia around the misaligned bone remains tense, Bowen Therapy is a complimentary next step or stand alone treatment.

Physical Therapy

How is Bowenwork different from Physical Therapy? Physical therapy is a prescription for a specific area of the body. Bowenwork focuses on how your body moves as a whole. Bowen also focuses on the nervous system, to get the body out of the ‘fight or flight’ stress patterns that result from injury.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy focuses on relieving knots or tension in muscles. Bowen focuses on relieving tension in the fascia, muscles and nervous system as a whole. Fascia is a protective layer of connective tissue that surrounds each muscle and muscle fiber. Through soft tissue manipulation and stimulation of the proprioceptors (internal nervous system receptors), Bowen sends a ‘reset’ message to the brain to return the body to a resting state. Bowen affects body posture, function and structure over the long-term. Everyone responds to Bowen Therapy according to what his or her body needs in order to heal. Bowen’s gentle moves over muscle and soft tissue produce physical, chemical, emotional and mental healing.
